Under The Moonlight - Under Offer/Under Contract

One of the most dramatic mountain lodges ever built in Australia, the home won a national building honour – Most Innovative use of steel – Australia 2009 at the annual Housing Industry Association (HIA) Awards.

Envisaged and constructed in 2007 by Roman architect Giovanni D'Ambrosio ‘Under the Moonlight' combines inspiration from Hotham's traditional cattlemen huts with contemporary alpine design.

Perched on the edge of an alpine reserve in Dinner Plain Village, part of the highest approved freehold land in Australia, the home is located just 10 minutes from down hill skiing at Mount Hotham.

Featuring extensive 8 x 9 sq metre glass panels, sweeping alpine views are drawn in to the interior of the home, which also features a 20 tonne cantilevered fire place made of local stone.

Under the Moonlight has been designed for year-round use and comprises two bedrooms, including a master bedroom with an expansive cutting-edge ensuite and spa. 

“The home is integrated into the site amongst magnificent snow gums through the use of natural materials, such as local stone, timber and metal, which are part of the region's past and present.”

“It is a modern adaptation of the architecture of the historic Horse Hair Hut, believed to have been one of the longest standing of its kind in the area.”

Advanced design features include argon gas-filled glass panels which form the home's striking glass peak and an insulated metal roof to warm the home and reinforced foundations to cope with the weight of the 20 tonne cantilevered stone fire place and chimney.
